Vocabulary

Soccer

A game played between two teams of eleven people, where each team tries to win by kicking a ball into other team's goal

• Goal: an area on a playing field, that usually has two posts with a net fixed behind them, where players try to send the ball in order to score 

• Goal keeper: the player who stands in the team's goal to try to stop the other team from scoring

Professional Cycling

To ride a bicycle in professional racers

• Aero bars: Extension of the handlebars usually allowing the rider to rest his elbows and benefit from improved aerodynamics.

Runner

Someone who runs, especially in competitions 

• Marathon: a running race of slightly over 26 miles (42.195 kilometers) 

Professional Swimmer 

A person who participates in swimming competitions

• Dive: to jump into water, especially with your head and arms going in first 

• Goggles: special glasses which fit close to the face to protect the eyes from chemicals, wind, water, etc 

Boxing 

A sport in which two competitors fight by hitting each other with their hands 

• Ring: a limited area where boxers compete 

• Round: one of the periods of time during a boxing or wrestling match when the competitors are fighting 

Hurdler 

A person or horse that runs in races where there are hurdles 

• Hurdles: a frame or fence for jumping over in a race
